65% of Ghanaians cannot afford a healthy diet, Professor Anna Lartey reveals

Nutritionist Professor Anna Lartey has revealed that 65 per cent of Ghanaians cannot afford a healthy diet, while 43.5 per cent face moderate to severe food insecurity. She made this known during the 2026 World Food Day commemoration in Accra, highlighting the impact of poor nutrition on health, education and productivity.
She called on the government to make nutritious food more affordable and accessible, especially in rural communities. She also encouraged increased production of fruits and vegetables, reduced food waste and greater consumption of nutritious local foods.
The event, organised by the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and hosted by the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research, was held under the theme “Innovate Today. Nourish Tomorrow.”
