BoG, police arrest seven over cedi money bouquets, cakes

The Bank of Ghana (BoG), in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service, has arrested seven people in Accra for allegedly using Ghana cedi notes to produce money bouquets and cakes for commercial purposes.
The BoG says the suspects will be prosecuted, with possible sanctions including fines or imprisonment.
The central bank has warned the public against using cedi notes for decorations, spraying money at events, writing on or altering banknotes, and other forms of misuse or abuse of the currency.
BoG’s Head of Statistics at the Currency Management Department, Dinah Bonzi, said the arrests should serve as a warning to individuals and businesses to handle the cedi with dignity.
