NACOC records 109 cases and 163 arrests nationwide in 2025

Ghana’s Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) says it has arrested 163 people in connection with 109 drug-related cases across the country this year, as the agency outlines its enforcement record for 2025. PNCO Francis Opoku Amoah, Acting Director of Public Affairs and International Relations at NACOC, said the number of arrests exceeded the number of cases because several suspects are often linked to a single investigation. “In terms of arrests, we have about 163 people involved in the 109 cases we are handling,” he told Channel One TV on Friday, 19 December 2025. Mr Opoku Amoah said nearly 50 of the cases have already been filed in court, with trials currently at different stages of the judicial process. He added that the Commission expects all outstanding cases to be concluded by next year. According to him, NACOC has so far secured five convictions, with those found guilty serving prison sentences ranging from six years to longer terms. “Currently, at different levels of the courts, we have close to 50 cases that are still pending. We hope that by next year, all these cases will be concluded,” he said, stressing the Commission’s firm stance against drug-related offences. Mr Opoku Amoah also noted a reduction in arrests compared with the previous year, when fewer than 100 people were taken into custody. He attributed the decline to improved investigative methods and changing enforcement strategies. By VOU News
