Three eminent Ghanaians awarded honorary doctorates by UPSA

The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), recently honoured three prominent Ghanaians with honorary doctorate degrees during its 5th Session of the 17th Congregation on Thursday, December 4, 2025. The recipients: Prof. Joshua Alabi, the first Vice-Chancellor of the University,H.E.Nana Konadu Agyemang-Rawlings(former First Lady of Ghana),represented by Dr. Zenator Rawlings and Mr. Joseph K. Horgle, Founder and Chairman of J.K.Horgle Transport & Co. Limited,were recognized for their outstanding contributions to the nation. In the tribute of the Vice- Chancellor of the University of professional studies Accra (UPSA), Prof. John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor, "the honorees, describe them as individuals whose lives exemplify the highest standards of service and leadership" He also revealed the significance of their achievements and the selflessness they demonstrated,emphasizing that "their exemplary conduct should inspire students aiming for success in both personal and professional realms". Mr. Julius Debrah, Chief of Staff and UPSA GRASAG Executives-representative for the President of Elect Pay Courtesy Visit to Ghana, characterized the honorees as Dean of Students “trailblazers” who have significantly impacted society. He urged the graduating class to reflect on the legacies of the honorees, encouraging them to challenge conventional norms and become future leaders who are proactive and innovative. In his acceptance speech, Prof. Alabi expressed deep appreciation for the recognition and shared insights from his extensive leadership experience. He stressed that "transformative leaders must embrace resistance as a source of energy that can steer positive change and underscored the necessity of establishing robust systems that demand excellence from future successors" Prof. Alabi concluded by advocating for the recognition and reward of hard work,asserting that true transformation in Ghana and beyond hinges on celebrating merit and excellence.
