UPSA SRC aspirants clash at debate ahead of April 17 elections

The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) has held its SRC election debate at the Voice of UPSA studios ahead of the April 17 polls. The debate brought together candidates contesting for Women’s Commissioner, External Affairs President, and SRC President, offering them a platform to defend their ideas and outline their vision for the student body. In the Women’s Commissioner race, Shirley Yemoh Kakebi and Owusu Obenewaa Priscilla competed against Priscilla Samari Alorgli and Akushika Vincentia Agboson. The candidates focused on student safety on campus, menstrual health and hygiene support, anti-harassment measures, and skills development. Both teams also emphasized empowerment, mentorship, and creating safe spaces for students. The External Affairs Presidency debate featured Fortune Kamafo, Henry Anyagre, and Jeremiah Awulikie-Ayi. They focused on strengthening partnerships, expanding internship and scholarship opportunities, improving alumni engagement, and increasing the university’s external visibility. Turning to the SRC presidential race, two tickets faced off Isaac Osafo Junior and Michelle Osae Poku, who competed against Leslie Nkansah and Leslie Ephraim Ackah. Discussions focused on academic support, student welfare, infrastructure, and financial assistance. Proposals included entrepreneurship support systems, improved internet access, and transportation solutions. Rebuttals were exchanged across all categories, with candidates defending their proposals and challenging opponents on policy implementation and effectiveness. The debate ended with closing remarks from all candidates, who urged students to participate in the upcoming elections. The SRC elections are scheduled for April 17.
